White Cloud Grieves Loss of 5th-Grade Student in Tragic Car Accident; Father and Twin Brother in Critical Condition

WHITE CLOUD, Mich. — The White Cloud community is reeling after a devastating car accident claimed the life of a 5th-grade student at White Cloud Public Schools this past Friday. The student’s twin brother, also a 5th grader, and their father were critically injured in the crash and remain hospitalized as they fight for their lives.

The heartbreaking news was shared by the district in a message to families, where leaders expressed their sorrow and urged the community to come together during this time of grief. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and offer them your support in any way you can.”

For many, the tragedy feels deeply personal. In a close-knit district like White Cloud, students, parents, teachers, and neighbors often share bonds that stretch well beyond the classroom. The sudden loss of a child and the critical injuries to their loved ones has left classmates, staff, and the wider community stunned and searching for ways to support the grieving family.

Recognizing the need for healing spaces, the district announced that starting Monday morning, dedicated rooms and resources will be available at each school building. These spaces will be staffed with local pastors, social workers, and counselors to ensure that students, parents, guardians, and staff have a safe place to process the news and seek emotional support. The district encouraged anyone in need to use these services, emphasizing the importance of leaning on one another in times of sorrow.

Officials also urged parents and guardians to begin difficult but necessary conversations with their children at home. They noted that students may hear the news from peers and experience a range of emotions, and that open dialogue within families can help them navigate their grief and confusion.

As word of the tragedy spread, messages of condolence began pouring in from across Newaygo County and beyond. Community members have already begun organizing gestures of support, from meal trains to prayer vigils, highlighting the deep compassion and unity that often shines brightest in the darkest of times.

The district closed its statement by thanking the community for their continued understanding, strength, and compassion, reminding everyone that while the loss is immeasurable, no one has to face it alone.
