VAN BUREN, Maine — Authorities have confirmed the identities of those involved in a heartbreaking accident that claimed the life of a young girl in Van Buren.
The victim has been identified as 8-year-old Emma Cormier, a beloved child of the community. The driver of the ambulance was 46-year-old paramedic Amanda Skidgel, a longtime Van Buren resident and medical responder.
A Devastating Accident
The fatal crash occurred earlier this week when an ambulance driven by Skidgel struck Emma Cormier. Despite swift emergency response efforts at the scene, the child could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
Maine State Police are leading the investigation into the crash, reviewing roadway conditions, vehicle data, and witness accounts. Officials have not said whether the ambulance was responding to an emergency call at the time.
Remembering Emma Cormier
Emma’s sudden passing has left the small northern Maine town in shock. Family, friends, and neighbors describe her as a bright, joyful child who loved to laugh and play.
