SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A tragic discovery stunned a Southeast Side neighborhood on Sunday morning when two men, believed to be a father and son, were found dead in a driveway in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
The shooting occurred just before 8:30 a.m. in the 12200 block of Dewitt Avenue, near Whitney Avenue and Blue Wing Road, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
Authorities said a 911 caller found the men lying in the driveway with gunshot wounds. First responders pronounced both men dead at the scene.
Investigators said the victims were a man in his early 60s and another in his early 30s. Though their identities have not been released, police believe they were related as father and son.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm their names and issue official cause-of-death rulings.
SAPD detectives said early evidence suggests the case is a murder-suicide, but the investigation remains ongoing. At this time, it is unclear which man fired the fatal shots.
Authorities are working to determine a possible motive and whether the family had prior history of domestic disputes.
Neighbors expressed shock at the violent turn of events in a normally quiet area. “This is a peaceful street, you don’t expect to see something like this,” one resident told reporters.
Counselors and community advocates urged families to seek help if they are experiencing conflict or emotional struggles, noting that resources are available to prevent tragedies of this kind.
Police will continue canvassing the area, speaking with neighbors, and reviewing possible surveillance footage. The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victims’ identities once families have been notified.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the case to contact SAPD’s Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at (210) 224-STOP.
