Two Injured in Early Morning Shooting Outside Schulas Grill & Crab House in Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A shooting incident in Hagerstown early Sunday morning left two people injured, prompting a heavy police response and sparking concern among residents and local business owners. The violence unfolded just after 2:00 a.m. on August 24, 2025, near John F. Kennedy Drive at Schulas Grill & Crab House, a popular late-night gathering spot in the city.

Details of the Incident

According to the Hagerstown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire outside the restaurant and bar. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services quickly transported both victims to Meritus Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names or updated conditions, though officials confirmed that both were alive as of Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses at the scene reported chaos as patrons ran for cover when shots rang out in the parking lot. Several vehicles and nearby businesses were temporarily closed off as police conducted an on-site investigation.

Investigation Underway

Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive behind the shooting. Detectives canvassed the area for surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses who may have seen the altercation leading up to the gunfire.

“Hagerstown detectives are actively investigating this incident,” the department said in a statement. “We are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist in holding those responsible accountable.”

Authorities stressed that while the shooting appeared to be an isolated event, extra patrols would be assigned to the area in the coming days to reassure the community.

Community Concerns

For many Hagerstown residents, the shooting has raised renewed concerns about violence in late-night entertainment districts. John F. Kennedy Drive, where Schulas Grill & Crab House is located, often draws large crowds on weekends.

“People just want to go out and enjoy themselves without worrying about getting caught in something like this,” said one nearby resident, who described waking up to the sound of sirens and helicopters early Sunday morning.

Local business owners also expressed frustration, fearing that ongoing safety concerns could impact their operations. “We work hard to provide a safe environment for our guests,” one restaurant manager in the area explained. “Incidents like this hurt the whole community.”

Police Call for Public Assistance

Investigators are urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting to contact the Hagerstown Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers. Authorities believe that additional eyewitness accounts and security camera footage could play a key role in solving the case.

Looking Ahead

While both victims continue to recover, Hagerstown leaders emphasized the importance of community cooperation to reduce violence in the city. Sunday’s shooting marks another violent incident in a year when police have already responded to multiple gun-related calls.

As the investigation continues, residents are left grappling with the unsettling reality of gun violence hitting close to home.
