DONNA, Texas — The city of Donna is reeling from heartbreak after 18-year-old Juan Angel Martinez was tragically killed in a devastating single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to the Donna Police Department, the collision occurred around 6:10 a.m. on September 14, 2025, at the intersection of FM 493 and Mile 9. When officers arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had slammed into a cement block wall before striking an electrical pole. Despite the efforts of first responders, Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Gilberto Saenz, who has ordered an autopsy.
Investigators say the preliminary findings indicate Martinez was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed into the southbound lane, veered off the roadway, and crashed into the structures with fatal impact.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is working alongside the Donna Police Department on a full accident reconstruction to determine the precise circumstances of the crash. At this time, no additional contributing factors have been publicly confirmed.
Martinez’s passing has shaken the Donna community, where the young man was known and loved. Friends, neighbors, and classmates have shared tributes across social media, remembering him as a bright, kindhearted soul whose future was tragically cut short.
Community members have also expressed gratitude to the bystanders and first responders who rushed to the scene, though the severity of the crash left little chance for survival.
As the investigation continues, Donna officials urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant behind the wheel, noting that speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal accidents in Texas.
The Martinez family is now left to grieve an unimaginable loss. Loved ones describe Juan Angel as a vibrant young man with limitless potential, whose memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Donna Police Department as the case remains under investigation.
