Tragedy in Darlington County: 15-Year-Old McBee High School Student Killed in Crash on West Old Camden Road

 

DARLINGTON COUNTY, South Carolina — A devastating crash Friday night has left the McBee community in mourning after 15-year-old Annabelle Andrews, a sophomore at McBee High School, was tragically killed in a two-vehicle collision on West Old Camden Road, about six miles north of Hartsville.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, the accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Newmarket Road.

Authorities reported that a 2012 Jeep Wrangler and a 2014 Ford pickup truck were traveling westbound on West Old Camden Road when the Jeep attempted to pass the pickup. During the maneuver, the Jeep struck the front portion of the Ford, causing the Wrangler to veer off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a ditch, overturned, and crashed into a utility pole.

Victim Identified as McBee High Sophomore

Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee confirmed that Annabelle Andrews, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Annabelle, described by friends and classmates as kindhearted, bright, and full of potential, was deeply loved within the McBee High School community. The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the small Chesterfield County town, where residents are rallying together in grief and remembrance.

Others Injured in the Crash

Authorities stated that another occupant of the Jeep suffered injuries in the collision and was transported by EMS to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Ford pickup was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has launched an investigation into the crash, working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the deadly collision.
