Perry County Woman Killed in Athens County Crash Has Been Identified as 27-Year-Old Monica Leigh Perani

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities have confirmed the identity of the woman killed in a tragic head-on collision Sunday morning in Athens County. The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Monica Leigh Perani of Corning, Ohio, whose life was cut short in the devastating crash.

The Crash

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025, on State Route 682 just south of Wildwood Lane in Athens Township.

Investigators say Perani was driving northwest in a 2024 Nissan Sentra when her vehicle was struck head-on by a 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck that had crossed the center line. The truck was being driven by 69-year-old Paul Richard Biehl of Athens.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but tragically, Perani was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County Coroner’s Office. Biehl was transported by Athens County EMS to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency Response

The crash prompted a large response from local agencies, including the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, The Plains Fire Department, Athens County EMS, the Athens County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Troopers confirmed that both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
