MIDLAND, TX โ The Midland community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Henry Anthony Vela, affectionately known as โCrickett,โ who died in a tragic head-on collision early Saturday morning, July 26, 2025. At 34 years old, Henryโs sudden passing has left a profound void among family, friends, and neighbors who cherished him deeply.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. along a stretch of I-20 near Midland when Henryโs vehicle collided with another car. Both vehicles caught fire following the impact, and emergency responders pronounced both drivers dead at the scene. Henry was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 eastbound when the collision happened. Authorities confirmed the other driver was 78-year-old William Randolph Smith.
The community has been left reeling after such a devastating event, as Henry was a well-known and well-loved figure in the area. Friends and family recall his vibrant personality and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.
