Nikki, a beloved sister, mentor, and friend, transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the age of 50. Her loss has left family, sorority sisters, and friends across the nation in deep grief, as they gather to celebrate her remarkable life and legacy.
A Life of Love and Service
Born on March 24, 1975, Nikki Yelverton grew up with a strong sense of purpose, love, and dedication that she carried with her throughout her life. Known for her radiant smile and warm spirit, she was someone who uplifted others wherever she went.
To her Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sisters, Nikki was a shining example of sisterhood in action. She supported, guided, and encouraged those around her — not just in words, but through her actions. Friends recall how she selflessly gave of her time and energy, whether helping a fellow sister’s daughter move into her graduate school apartment at Appalachian State University, or offering her signature “one-line food for thought” to inspire those around her.
Her legacy is one of kindness, loyalty, and encouragement, qualities that will never be forgotten.
Celebration of Life Service
The family of Ms. Nikki Wombui’ Yelverton invites friends, sorors, and community members to join in honoring her life:
- Visitation: Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 904 N. Roxboro St., Durham, NC.
- Celebration of Life Service: Immediately following visitation, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church.
- Interment: Private, for family only.
