Alongside her son, Avantae Pender, 21, Sutton was fatally shot in a devastating triple shooting that has left the neighborhood reeling.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced Sutton and her son deceased at the scene.

Authorities have identified Donta Maurice Chestnut, 39, of Wilson, as the suspect. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
