Helena Mourns Loss of Elaine Reiter, 74, After Fatal Sandusky Township Crash

HELENA, OH — The tight-knit community of Helena is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Elaine Reiter, 74, who tragically died in a two-car crash on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Sandusky Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and County Road 128. Investigators reported that Reiter was driving south on County Road 128 when her vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by an eastbound car on U.S. 20.

Emergency crews from Seneca County and Sandusky Township responded swiftly to the scene. Despite their efforts, Reiter was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not immediately life-threatening.
