HARTFORD, Conn. — A young man is dead following a shooting on Main Street early Sunday morning, prompting an active homicide investigation by Hartford Police.
The Shooting
At approximately 1:42 a.m. on August 24, 2025, patrol officers were dispatched to 3250 Main Street after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and unresponsive.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Victim Identified
Police identified the victim as Niajae Vernon, 25, of Hartford (DOB: January 13, 2000). Family members and friends are now left grieving the sudden and violent loss of a young life, while authorities work to determine what led to the shooting.
Investigation
The case is being handled by the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division in coordination with the Crime Scene Division. Detectives spent the early morning hours canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing potential witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses and residences.
No arrests have been made, and police have not released any suspect description or motive at this time.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the incident to contact investigators.
