FLORISSANT, Mo. (Aug. 28, 2025) — McCluer North High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after officials received a report that someone on campus may have been carrying a weapon, authorities confirmed.
The incident unfolded shortly after noon at the school, located at 705 Waterford Drive. Administrators quickly initiated lockdown procedures while police officers rushed to the scene.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the school went into immediate lockdown while officers conducted a full search of the campus,” said a spokesperson for the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
So far, no weapon has been recovered and no injuries have been reported, Florissant police said. Students remained secured in classrooms while officers checked hallways, common areas, and the school grounds.
Dozens of parents crowded outside the school after receiving emergency alerts from the district. Law enforcement urged families to remain patient and avoid the area until the lockdown is lifted.
“Student safety is our top priority,” Florissant Police said in a statement. “We are treating every report seriously until we can confirm otherwise.”
McCluer North High, which serves more than 1,300 students, has seen increased security measures in recent years as schools across the country grapple with rising concerns over guns and campus safety.
The district said additional updates will be provided as the investigation continues, and counseling services will be offered for students and staff once classes resume.
