FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — Tragedy struck the Florence County community on Tuesday when a local man was shot in Timmonsville and later succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed. Timmonsville Police Chief James Allen confirmed that the victim has been identified as Calvin Sowells. According to law enforcement reports, Sowells arrived at the Hot Spot convenience store on Highway 76 visibly suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders were called immediately, and Sowells was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later died from his injuries, Chief Allen said.
