EVERGREEN, Colo. — Tragedy struck Evergreen High School Wednesday afternoon when authorities confirmed that 16-year-old Desmond Holly shot two fellow students before taking his own life, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the suburban Denver high school, located about 30 miles west of the city in the scenic Rocky Mountain foothills. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement responded quickly and found Holly within five minutes of the first reports of gunfire.
Victims and Condition
Two students were injured in the shooting. One of the victims remains in critical condition, while the other sustained less severe injuries and is receiving treatment. Holly died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities confirmed.
No police officers discharged their firearms during the response. Over 100 officers from surrounding areas were deployed to the school to secure the campus, assist students, and investigate the unfolding situation.
