CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — A construction accident late Friday night in Cambridge Township claimed the life of a Duncan Falls man, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said 58-year-old Troy D. Haley was killed around 10:13 p.m. on August 22, 2025, while operating heavy equipment in a designated work zone on the Interstate 77 northbound to Interstate 70 eastbound ramp.
The Fatal Incident
Investigators said Haley was working as part of an active nighttime construction project when the equipment he was operating overturned. Emergency personnel, including the Cambridge Fire Department and United Ambulance, responded quickly, but Haley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers confirmed that no other vehicles or workers were involved in the incident. A full investigation is underway to determine what caused the machinery to overturn.
Investigation Underway
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reviewing factors such as ground stability, operator conditions, and potential mechanical failure. Officials have not released additional details but said the investigation remains active.
A Respected Worker and Family Man
Haley, a longtime resident of Duncan Falls, was well-known in his community and respected for his hard work in the construction industry. Friends and neighbors described him as dedicated, reliable, and deeply devoted to his family. His sudden death has left those close to him in shock and mourning.
Work Zone Safety Concerns
This tragedy once again highlights the dangers faced by roadway construction workers, particularly during overnight shifts. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues to urge drivers to use extreme caution in work zones, where reduced visibility and heavy machinery can create high-risk situations.
Every year, dozens of workers are killed in construction zones across the United States. Officials stress that motorist awareness and strict adherence to work zone laws are essential to prevent further tragedies.
Community Mourning
Haley’s passing has drawn condolences from across Guernsey and Muskingum counties, with many sharing tributes to his life and work. His family has requested privacy at this time as they prepare to release funeral arrangements.
Moving Forward
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to release further details once its investigation is complete. Meanwhile, Haley is remembered as a man who gave his best to his family, his work, and his community — a life cut tragically short on the job.
