GRANT PARISH, La. — Louisiana State Police have confirmed that 54-year-old Derrick L. Mason of Woodworth has been identified as the victim of a devastating crash that claimed his life early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on September 14, 2025, along U.S. Highway 165 in Grant Parish. According to investigators, Mason was driving a 2020 Freightliner southbound when, for reasons still under review, he lost control of the vehicle. Emergency responders, including local fire and medical units, arrived at the scene within minutes. Despite their efforts, Mason was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers confirmed that Mason had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, though the force of the impact proved fatal.
As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed, though authorities say impairment is not suspected at this time. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including road conditions, vehicle data, and other possible contributing factors.
Mason’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and the wider Woodworth community reeling.
