CLEVELAND, Miss. — A wave of grief swept across Delta State University on Monday morning after the shocking discovery of a student’s death on campus. The university confirmed that 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a Black male student from Grenada, Mississippi, was found dead near the pickleball courts in the central part of campus around 7:00 a.m. on September 15, 2025.
University Police Chief Mike Peeler confirmed the identity of the student and stated that foul play is not suspected at this time, though the circumstances remain under investigation.
“The loss of a young life is always tragic,” Chief Peeler said in a statement. “At this time, there is no indication of criminal activity. We are working closely with the Bolivar County Coroner’s Office to determine the official cause of death.”

Following the discovery, Delta State University took swift action to prioritize the well-being of its students, faculty, and staff. All classes and Centennial events scheduled for Monday were canceled to allow the campus community to process the tragedy and seek support during this difficult time.
