Dallas Police Identify Victim in Gruesome Motel Beheading as 50-Year-Old Chandra Nagamallaiah

DALLAS, TX — A shocking and gruesome crime has left the Old East Dallas community reeling after police discovered the decapitated body of a man outside a Samuell Boulevard motel on Wednesday morning. Authorities have now identified the victim as 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, and a suspect has been arrested and charged with capital murder.

Disturbing discovery at Downtown Suites motel

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. outside the Downtown Suites motel, located just off Interstate 30 near the Tenison Golf Course. Responding officers and Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel found Nagamallaiah’s body on the sidewalk, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the victim had been stabbed multiple times with a bladed weapon. While officials have not released full details of the crime, witnesses described the scene as graphic, and the area was quickly cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators began collecting evidence.

Suspect arrested nearby

Police confirmed the suspect, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, was taken into custody shortly after the killing. Witnesses reported that he was arrested in front of a nearby convenience store just down the street from the motel.

Authorities noted that, although the suspect was armed with a bladed weapon at the time of his arrest, officers showed restraint and were able to safely take him into custody.

Cobos-Martinez has since been booked into the Dallas County Jail on a charge of capital murder.

Community shaken by violence

The shocking nature of the crime has rattled residents and business owners in Old East Dallas. Many who live and work nearby said they were horrified to see such violence unfold in broad daylight.

“This kind of brutality is something you never expect to witness in your own neighborhood,” one resident shared, adding that the incident left the community deeply unsettled.

Unanswered questions

Despite the arrest, several questions remain unanswered. Police have not disclosed what type of weapon was used in the killing, nor have they clarified whether Cobos-Martinez and Nagamallaiah knew each other prior to the incident. Investigators are also reviewing whether a second possible crime scene in the area may be linked to the case.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more details are expected in the coming days.

The brutal murder has heightened concerns over public safety in the Old East Dallas area. The visibility of the attack—taking place in the middle of the morning outside a motel—has left many residents shaken and calling for answers.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
