WHITLEY BAY, Tyne and Wear — A day of summer festivities turned to tragedy on Saturday when 28-year-old Corrie Lee Stavers, a worker at the Spanish City Summer Funfair, died after suffering fatal head injuries in a workplace accident.
The incident happened at approximately 2:15 p.m. on August 23 while Stavers was working on the popular “Experience” ride, a high-speed attraction featuring rotating benches of seats. Emergency services, including police, ambulances, and an air ambulance, rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, Stavers was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Emergency Services Flood the Scene
Visitors described scenes of shock as the ride area was cordoned off and families were moved away while first responders battled to save the young worker. Police confirmed the funfair was immediately closed and will remain shut until further notice.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:
“Despite the best efforts of medical staff who attended the scene, a short time later, the man was sadly declared dead. Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time.”
