COROLLA, N.C. — A devastating high-speed crash near North Harbor View in Corolla has claimed the lives of two people, leaving families and communities in Georgia and New Jersey grieving the sudden loss of loved ones.
Authorities confirmed that the victims of the deadly accident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 19, 2025, were 65-year-old Rosario Edgar of Marietta, Georgia, and 22-year-old Nicholas Danbrowney of Barnegat, New Jersey.
According to investigators, the tragedy unfolded when the Ford Explorer carrying the two men left the roadway at high speed and overturned multiple times. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene quickly, but despite their immediate response, both Edgar and Danbrowney were pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office reported that the SUV sustained extensive damage in the rollover, which scattered debris along the roadside. Law enforcement officers and first responders worked to secure the crash scene for several hours, causing delays for morning traffic in the area.
At this stage of the investigation, authorities have not released details about what caused the Explorer to veer off the road. Whether excessive speed, driver impairment, or other factors contributed to the wreck remains under review.
Residents who live near North Harbor View described the crash as “horrific” and said the sound of the SUV overturning multiple times woke up people in nearby homes. “It was like thunder, then silence,” one resident recalled.
The loss of Rosario Edgar and Nicholas Danbrowney is being felt deeply across state lines. Edgar, 65, was described by friends as a devoted family man who often traveled to North Carolina’s Outer Banks region. Danbrowney, only 22, was remembered as a young man full of promise, with his whole life ahead of him.
The Corolla crash is one of several serious roadway accidents reported in North Carolina in recent weeks, underscoring ongoing concerns about speeding and driver safety, particularly during the busy summer season when coastal highways see increased traffic.
