Bicyclist Killed in Collision on US-41 in East Naples; Florida Highway Patrol Investigating

EAST NAPLES, Fla. — A tragic accident on Sunday night has left a bicyclist dead after being struck by a vehicle along U.S. 41, just east of Guilford Road, according to emergency officials.

Greater Naples Fire Rescue crews and Collier County EMS responded to the scene at 8:53 p.m. following reports of the collision. Despite immediate medical efforts, radio communications confirmed that the bicyclist was pronounced dead at 9:04 p.m.

Authorities quickly shut down all eastbound lanes of U.S. 41 near the crash site, creating significant traffic delays as emergency personnel worked the scene. Drivers in the area were redirected while investigators documented the roadway and gathered evidence.

The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly collision. At this time, officials have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, or other factors played a role.

Local residents say the stretch of U.S. 41 where the crash occurred is heavily traveled and often dangerous for cyclists, particularly after dark. Advocates have long raised concerns about roadway safety in Collier County, pointing to the need for improved lighting, bike lanes, and driver awareness.

The fatal crash adds to a troubling trend in Southwest Florida, where collisions involving cyclists and pedestrians have been on the rise. State data shows Florida consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for roadway deaths involving vulnerable road users.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging drivers to exercise heightened caution, especially at night when visibility is reduced. They are also reminding bicyclists to use reflective gear and lights when riding after dark.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not released additional details about the driver involved or whether charges may be filed. Officials say more information will be made available as the investigation progresses.
