MADBURY, N.H. — A tragic murder-suicide has shaken the small town of Madbury after authorities revealed that a mother is believed to have fatally shot her husband and two of their children before turning the gun on herself.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella confirmed the devastating details during a press briefing on Sunday, saying evidence at the scene strongly indicates the mother carried out the killings inside the family’s home.
Bodies Found Inside Home
Police were called to the residence after relatives and neighbors reported being unable to contact the family. When officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of four individuals — the parents and two of their children.
While the names of the victims have not yet been released, officials say autopsies are underway at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the causes of death.
Small Town in Mourning
Madbury, a close-knit Strafford County community, is grappling with the heartbreaking news. Neighbors described the family as quiet and well-liked.
“This is absolutely devastating. It’s hard to process something like this happening here,” one resident told reporters. “Our hearts go out to their surviving relatives.”
Counselors and local support groups are preparing to provide services to schools and residents impacted by the tragedy.

AG Formella expressed condolences to the victims’ loved ones and urged the public to rally around the grieving community.
“This is a deeply painful tragedy that has left an entire town in shock,” Formella said. “We ask everyone to keep the family’s relatives in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.”
