LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A Little Rock School District employee was fatally shot Monday morning near the Rockefeller Early Childhood Center, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting swift police action.
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Michelle Butler, a dedicated district worker remembered for her commitment to children and families.
Authorities confirmed that 29-year-old Duane Nooner has been arrested in connection with the shooting. He was taken into custody shortly after the incident and is expected to face charges of first-degree murder.
The Shooting
According to the Little Rock Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire near East 10th Street just before 8:30 a.m. Butler was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials emphasized that the shooting occurred outside school grounds and no children or staff were physically harmed.

The Little Rock School District released a statement mourning Butler’s death, calling her a “beloved and respected member of the LRSD family.” Counselors have been deployed to support students, staff, and families affected by the tragedy.

Suspect in Custody
Police said Nooner was apprehended without incident. The relationship between him and Butler has not been disclosed, and investigators are still working to determine a motive.
