WASHITA COUNTY, Okla. — A tragic accident in western Oklahoma claimed the lives of two young men from Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) confirmed.
The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Cisco Diaz and 20-year-old Israel Obando, both of Amarillo.
The Deadly Crash
According to OHP, the fatal wreck occurred in Washita County when the vehicle carrying Diaz and Obando veered off the roadway and crashed. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, both young men were pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the road. Investigators are examining whether speed, road conditions, or other factors may have contributed.
Grief in Amarillo and Beyond
News of the crash has devastated family and friends in Amarillo, where both Diaz and Obando grew up. The two were remembered as close friends with bright futures, whose lives were cut short far too soon.
“They were loved by so many,” a friend shared in a social media post. “This is a huge loss for all of us who knew them. Rest easy, Cisco and Israel.”
Another mourner wrote, “They had so much life ahead of them. It’s heartbreaking to even imagine they’re gone.”
Tributes have flooded social media, with photos and memories being shared as the Amarillo community rallies around the grieving families.
Authorities Urge Road Safety
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, but officials used the tragedy to remind drivers of the dangers of rural roadways.
“Single-vehicle crashes are among the most common fatal accidents we see in Oklahoma,” one OHP trooper noted. “It only takes a split second for something to go wrong.”

For family members, the grief is immeasurable. Cisco and Israel were described as young men full of energy, dreams, and loyalty to the people they loved.
“They weren’t just friends; they were like family to everyone around them,” one mourner said. “This loss will never be forgotten.”
