WINDHAM, Maine — A tragic shooting along Route 302 in North Windham on Saturday afternoon has left one woman dead and the suspected gunman later found deceased, authorities confirmed.
Victim Identified as Erin Hayne of Casco
Police identified the victim as Erin Hayne, a Casco resident, who was fatally shot just before 2 p.m. near Route 302. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, Hayne was pronounced dead.
Friends and family describe Erin as a kindhearted and compassionate individual whose sudden loss has left the community in shock and grief.
Suspect Fled Scene, Later Found Dead
Authorities quickly identified James O. Ford as the shooting suspect. After the deadly encounter, Ford reportedly fled the scene in a silver vehicle, heading toward Raymond.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Maine State Police, Windham Police Department, and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, launched a coordinated manhunt. The suspect’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned in a Dunkin’ parking lot in Raymond.
Shortly after, police located Ford dead, though officials have not yet released details regarding the circumstances of his death.
