AUSTIN, TX – A 42-year-old known gang member, Tugg, affiliated with the Mafia Insane Vice Lord organization, was fatally shot Wednesday evening in what authorities are describing as an attempted robbery. The incident occurred after Tugg inadvertently revealed his location on Facebook Live, highlighting the dangers of sharing personal whereabouts online.
According to the Austin Police Department, Tugg was sitting in his own vehicle when two unidentified individuals approached in a separate car. Investigators say the suspects attempted to rob Tugg, targeting his chain, before opening fire. Tugg was struck in the chest during the altercation. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police have confirmed that the suspects fled the scene and are actively seeking leads. Authorities are reviewing video footage from nearby surveillance cameras and the Facebook Live stream in an effort to identify those involved.
“This appears to have been a targeted robbery,” said Officer Marcus Rodriguez of the Austin Police Department. “We are urging anyone with information to come forward. Social media can unfortunately make people vulnerable if their location is exposed.”
Tugg was known in Austin’s criminal circles as a member of the Mafia Insane Vice Lord gang, an organization involved in multiple violent crimes. Police say he had prior arrests related to gang activity but had no known connections to ongoing criminal investigations at the time of his death.
The Facebook Live video, which has since been taken down, shows Tugg casually interacting with viewers before the suspects arrived in a vehicle. Police are analyzing the footage to understand the timeline and identify potential witnesses.
Neighbors and community members expressed shock at the violent incident, describing the area as generally quiet.
“It’s sad to see something like this happen right here in our neighborhood,” said one resident, who asked not to be named. “We never expected this kind of violence.”
Family and friends have begun mourning Tugg’s death. Social media tributes emphasize condolences for the loss, despite his controversial background. Authorities continue to stress the importance of online safety and caution when broadcasting live content that could reveal one’s location.
The Austin Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding the suspects or the incident to contact them at (512) 974-5000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via local crime-stopper programs.
This incident serves as a reminder of the intersection between social media activity and real-world safety risks, particularly for individuals involved in criminal organizations or high-risk situations.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are reviewing all leads, including digital evidence and witness accounts, to bring those responsible to justice.
