Gunman in Dallas ICE Sniper Attack Has Been Identified as 29-Year-Old Joshua Jahn

DALLAS, Texas — Authorities have officially identified the gunman in Wednesday’s deadly sniper attack outside a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.

The brazen attack, which erupted late Wednesday morning, left four people dead, including Jahn himself, and has triggered urgent reviews of security protocols at federal facilities nationwide.

The Shooting

Investigators say Jahn opened fire from a concealed vantage point near the Dallas ICE office, targeting agents and contractors during the transfer of detainees. The sudden burst of gunfire shattered windows and sent officers scrambling for cover as bystanders ran for safety.

By the time law enforcement neutralized the shooter, three victims had been fatally struck, and several others were rushed to area hospitals with injuries.

Identity Confirmed

Federal officials confirmed Jahn’s identity Thursday after notifying his family. The FBI is leading the investigation, and while a motive has not been released, agents are combing through his personal history, digital records, and social media activity.

“This is now being treated as a targeted act of violence against a federal agency,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough. “We are working tirelessly to determine how and why this attack was carried out.”

Security Concerns Raised

The attack has reignited concerns over security at ICE facilities, particularly during detainee transport operations, which experts say are especially vulnerable to outside threats. ICE announced an immediate review of security procedures at all U.S. facilities in response.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson called the shooting “a senseless act of violence” and urged the community to remain calm while federal officials continue their investigation.

Victims’ Names Pending

Authorities have not yet released the names of the three victims killed in the attack, citing ongoing efforts to notify families.

The ICE facility remains closed as federal agents secure the area and gather evidence. Local schools and businesses were briefly placed on lockdown during the incident but have since resumed normal operations.

Ongoing Investigation

While Jahn’s identification brings some clarity, many questions remain unanswered. Officials say the probe will focus on how he obtained his weapon, whether anyone assisted him, and if warning signs were missed before the attack.

“This community has suffered a tragic loss,” Sheriff Marian Brown said. “We intend to uncover every detail about how this happened and prevent it from happening again.
