Willoughby, Ohio — A fatal shooting at the Fox Run Apartments in Willoughby has sparked a massive police response and an urgent manhunt for the suspected gunman, leaving the community on edge Monday evening.
Shooting Leaves One Dead
The Willoughby Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched to the Fox Run Apartments, located off Lost Nation Road, after reports of gunfire. Responding officers discovered a victim who had been fatally shot. Emergency personnel pronounced the individual deceased at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending family notification.
Suspect Description Released
Police say the suspect remains at large. He is described as a Black male wearing a dark zip-up jacket and black Adidas pants with a white stripe.
Officials are urging the public to stay alert and avoid approaching the suspect. Instead, anyone who sees him should immediately contact the Mentor Police Department at 440-255-1234.
“This individual is considered dangerous. Do not attempt to confront him,” the department said in a public advisory.
Heavy Police Presence and Community Impact
The shooting triggered a large-scale response, with officers from Willoughby, Mentor, and other nearby agencies flooding the area. SWAT teams, K9 units, and multiple emergency vehicles were seen at the scene as authorities worked to secure the neighborhood.

“I’ve never seen this many police in one place,” one resident said. “They told us to stay inside until it was safe. It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen right outside our door.”
