Texas Tech Student Camryn Giselle, 18, Arrested After Violent Outburst at Vigil for Charlie Kirk

LUBBOCK, Texas — A solemn vigil meant to honor the life of conservative activist Charlie Kirk took a disturbing turn Friday night when an attendee, later identified as 18-year-old Texas Tech student Camryn Giselle, allegedly disrupted the event, shouting profanities and assaulting multiple mourners.

The vigil, held near 2625 15th Street, drew a large gathering of community members who came together in remembrance. What began as a quiet, respectful ceremony shifted into chaos when Giselle reportedly forced her way into the crowd, taunting attendees with inflammatory remarks.

According to several witnesses, Giselle repeatedly yelled offensive chants, including crude references to Kirk’s death, while aggressively confronting those around her.

“She came out of nowhere, screaming at people who were praying,” one attendee told reporters. “At first, people asked her to leave, but she just got louder and started pushing people.”

Confrontation Turns Physical

The situation escalated quickly. Witnesses said Giselle shoved at least three individuals, including an elderly veteran who had come to pay his respects and a young mother holding her child.

“It was heartbreaking,” another mourner recalled. “This was supposed to be a peaceful night. To see people getting pushed and a baby almost caught in the middle of it — it was frightening.”

The disturbance spilled onto the street, disrupting traffic and drawing immediate attention from the Texas Tech Police Department, who responded within minutes. Officers said Giselle resisted their attempts to calm her and had to be physically restrained before being taken into custody.

Arrest and Charges

Authorities confirmed that Giselle was arrested on September 12, 2025, and booked into custody. She faces multiple charges, including:

  • Three counts of assault and battery
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Resisting arrest

She is currently being held ahead of a scheduled court appearance on September 15, 2025.

Texas Tech Response

In addition to criminal charges, Giselle is facing serious academic consequences. Texas Tech University officials confirmed that she is enrolled as a student and that disciplinary proceedings — including possible expulsion — are already underway.

In a statement released Saturday, the university said:

“Texas Tech University does not tolerate violent or disruptive behavior. The safety and well-being of our students and community remain our top priority, and this matter is being reviewed in accordance with university policy.”

Community Reactions

News of the arrest has sparked widespread discussion across Lubbock and online. Supporters of Kirk expressed anger and disbelief that a vigil in his memory could be marred by such hostility.

“This was supposed to be a time to remember Charlie and reflect on his life,” one attendee said. “Instead, it turned into something none of us will forget — for all the wrong reasons.”

Others voiced concern about the broader climate of political division and the dangers of hostility spilling into spaces intended for mourning and remembrance.
