Tragic Weber Road Crash: Melinda Portales Garcia, 50, and Rene Govea Sr., 46, Identified as Victims in Deadly Collision

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A devastating crash early Sunday morning has left two families grieving after 50-year-old Melinda Portales Garcia and 46-year-old Rene Govea Sr. lost their lives in a violent collision on Weber Road near Tripoli Street.

According to police, the crash happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. when a Cadillac Escalade, traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with a BMW before striking a utility pole. The impact ejected Garcia, who was a passenger in the Escalade. She died at the scene from her injuries.

Govea Sr., the driver of the BMW, was also killed in the collision.

Driver Facing Intoxication Manslaughter Charges

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Escalade, a woman whose name has not yet been released, showed signs of impairment. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is now facing intoxication manslaughter charges, pending toxicology test results.

Police say the crash remains under active investigation, but speed and alcohol are believed to have been major contributing factors.
