FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a tragic traffic accident that claimed the life of 81-year-old Rosa Banks of Laurel, Indiana, on Wednesday evening. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:17 p.m. on September 10 at the intersection of State Road 1 and Rhein Road.
Details of the Crash
According to preliminary information from investigators, the collision involved a 2010 Ford Fusion and a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Deputies reported that the Ford Fusion, driven by Rosa Banks, was attempting to enter the intersection from Rhein Road when her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by the Toyota Tacoma, which was traveling southbound on State Road 1.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but despite their efforts, Rosa Banks was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A passenger in the Ford Fusion, 33-year-old Robbie Dale Rae, sustained injuries during the crash. He was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Authorities did not provide further information about the extent of his injuries.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, 32-year-old David Tyler Hokey, was not reported to be injured.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have stated that, at this stage of the investigation, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Sgt. Adam Henson of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
