NEWTON, Miss. — September 8, 2025 — A potentially dangerous situation unfolded Monday afternoon at the Walmart in Newton, Mississippi, when authorities received reports of a man carrying a rifle inside the store. Thanks to a swift and coordinated law enforcement response, the incident ended peacefully with no injuries reported.

According to Newton County E-911, a call came in at approximately 4:10 p.m. reporting an armed individual inside the store. Officers with the Newton Police Department and deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Department immediately rushed to the scene.

Law enforcement quickly secured the area, guiding customers and employees to safety while systematically clearing the building. Within minutes, officers located the suspect near the sporting goods section. He was taken into custody without incident.
