POLK COUNTY, Texas — In the late-night hours of Sunday, September 7, 2025, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that would shake a normally quiet subdivision off FM 2457. Deputies were dispatched to the Indian Hills community after multiple gunshots were fired at a residence in what investigators now believe was a targeted drive-by shooting.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle drove past the home and opened fire, striking the residence multiple times. Though no injuries were reported, the incident left the family inside terrified and sparked immediate concern across the subdivision.
Swift Investigation Leads to Suspect Arrests
Detectives and patrol deputies quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Working through the night, investigators gathered ballistic evidence, canvassed the area for witnesses, and reviewed possible leads. Within hours, detectives were able to identify two suspects believed to be responsible for the gunfire.
The suspects — 18-year-old Abraham Saenz and 18-year-old Ivan Rangel, both of Livingston — were taken into custody without incident. Authorities say both teens face charges of Deadly Conduct Discharge of a Firearm (Felony 3), a serious offense under Texas law that can result in prison time.
Saenz and Rangel were transported to the Polk County Jail, where they remain in custody. The Sheriff’s Office noted that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation develops.
Sheriff’s Office: ‘Reckless and Dangerous Behavior’
In a brief statement, the Sheriff’s Office condemned the shooting, calling it “a reckless and dangerous act” that could have resulted in tragedy.
“This kind of criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our county,” the statement read. “We are grateful that no one was injured, but the danger posed by firing multiple rounds into an occupied residence cannot be overstated. Our investigators will continue working until every question is answered, and justice is served.”
Community on Edge After Gunfire
The Indian Hills subdivision, located near Lake Livingston, is generally considered a quiet residential community. Several residents told deputies that they were jolted awake by the sound of rapid gunfire just before midnight.
Neighbors have expressed both relief and unease — relief that the suspects were arrested so quickly, but unease that such violence struck so close to home. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen here,” one resident said. “We’re just thankful nobody inside that house was hurt.”
Ongoing Case, Possible Motive Under Review
As of Tuesday, authorities have not released information about a possible motive or whether the suspects and the victims knew each other. Detectives are continuing to process evidence, and officials say the case remains active.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with additional information to contact their office directly as the investigation moves forward.
Both Saenz and Rangel are currently being held at the Polk County Jail. Bond amounts have not yet been announced.
Looking Ahead
While no lives were lost in the shooting, officials emphasized that the gravity of the crime cannot be overlooked. By filing felony charges, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is signaling that it intends to pursue accountability to the fullest extent allowed under Texas law.
“This is exactly why community members need to speak up when they see suspicious activity,” the Sheriff’s Office added. “Together, we can prevent senseless violence and protect our neighborhoods.”
The case remains under active investigation, and updates are expected as new information becomes available.
