BERKS COUNTY, Pa. — A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon after authorities say he bypassed traffic controls and collided with a semi-trailer in Berks County.
Deadly Afternoon Crash
The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at a busy intersection where traffic was already heavy. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the rider ignored posted traffic controls and entered the roadway, directly into the path of an oncoming semi-trailer.
The impact was violent. Emergency crews responded quickly and performed life-saving measures, but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured and remained at the site, cooperating with investigators.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
Investigation Underway
Crash reconstruction teams spent hours at the scene Sunday evening, documenting skid marks, vehicle positions, and possible sight-line obstructions. Investigators are reviewing traffic camera footage and interviewing witnesses to determine whether speed or other factors played a role.
“At this point, all indications are that the motorcyclist bypassed the control system at the intersection, which directly led to the collision,” a state police spokesperson confirmed.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office will release an official cause of death following further examination.

The fatal accident has left residents shaken. Intersections where commercial truck traffic is frequent have long been a concern in the county, with locals calling for both drivers and riders to exercise greater caution.
“This road has always been dangerous, especially when people don’t respect the signals,” said one witness, who asked not to be identified. “It only takes a second for a life to be lost.”
