GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A quiet Saturday afternoon turned tragic after a fatal shooting at Mackay-Jaycees Park, located on Kalamazoo Avenue near 28th Street, claimed the life of a man now identified as John Doee.
The Incident
According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the park at approximately 5:45 p.m. Witnesses described scenes of panic as families and community members who had gathered for weekend activities rushed to safety.
When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old John Doee suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving measures administered by first responders and EMS personnel, Doee was pronounced dead at the scene.
