Lake Hamilton Boating Accident Claims Lives of Two Hot Springs Men During Fishing Tournament

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — A tragic boating accident on Lake Hamilton Thursday night claimed the lives of two Hot Springs men and left two others injured during what was supposed to be a routine evening fishing tournament.

The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. near Fisherman’s Wharf, when two boats struck nearly head-on in the dark waters of the lake. Authorities confirmed that Perry Kilby, 47, and Dewey Tosh, 54, were killed in the accident. Both men were longtime residents of Hot Springs and active participants in the local fishing community.

Onboard the second vessel were Terry Johnson and Todd Johnson, who sustained only minor injuries. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Kilby and Tosh could not be saved.

Community in Shock

The accident has sent shockwaves through the Hot Springs fishing community, where the men were well known. The weekly fishing tournaments on Lake Hamilton draw regular participants, and Thursday’s tragedy has left many grieving and reflecting on the risks of night boating.

“Both of these men were good people, friends to many of us, and part of the fabric of our fishing community,” one fellow angler shared in an online forum. “This is a heartbreaking loss.”

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including visibility on the lake at the time of the accident and whether lighting or speed may have played a role. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is assisting with the investigation.

A Reminder of Boating Dangers

The deadly crash is serving as a sobering reminder of the importance of boating safety, particularly during nighttime tournaments when visibility is limited. Officials urge boaters to use proper navigation lights, reduce speeds, and maintain heightened awareness when operating vessels in dark or congested waters.

Honoring the Victims

As word spread, friends and family of Kilby and Tosh expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss. Plans for memorial services have not yet been publicly announced.

“This is very sad and tragic — something that could happen anytime, anywhere,” said one community member. “We’re keeping their families in our prayers.”

The Hot Springs community continues to rally in support of the grieving families as the investigation unfolds.
