Birmingham Woman Identified as Kristy Harrison Killed in Tarrant Labor Day Drive-By Shooting

TARRANT, Alabama — A Labor Day celebration ended in tragedy Sunday night when 35-year-old Kristy Harrison of Birmingham was fatally shot during a drive-by attack in Tarrant. Police say she was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a dispute that escalated into violence.

Argument Over Car Escalated to Gunfire

According to the Tarrant Police Department, the violence stemmed from an argument earlier in the evening between two women over a car near Ford Avenue.

Although the initial confrontation ended without serious injury, investigators say tensions remained high. Hours later, gunfire erupted when an individual returned to the area and opened fire on a residence where several people had gathered for the holiday.

Victim Was an Innocent Bystander

Harrison, who was inside the home, was struck by bullets and critically injured. Authorities confirmed she had no connection to the earlier argument.

“She was an innocent bystander, someone simply enjoying a holiday evening with friends and family,” a police spokesperson said.

Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, but despite emergency efforts, she was later pronounced dead.

Who Was Kristy Harrison?

Family and friends identified the victim as Kristy Harrison, a McDonald’s Shift Manager who studied Business Administration at Everest College and graduated from C.W. Hayes High School.

She lived in Birmingham, where she was known as hardworking, kind, and devoted to her loved ones.

“Kristy was full of life,” one friend said. “She worked hard, cared for others, and always had a smile. This loss is beyond words.”

Community Shocked by Violence

Neighbors described the shooting as deeply unsettling in a community they consider quiet.

“This shouldn’t have happened,” one resident told reporters. “People argue every day, but to come back with a gun and take someone’s life is devastating.”

Community leaders are urging calm and emphasizing the need to prevent minor disputes from spiraling into deadly acts of retaliation.

Investigation Ongoing

As of Monday, no arrests had been made. Detectives are reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses as they work to identify those responsible.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Tarrant Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

A Holiday Shattered

Instead of joy, Labor Day weekend brought heartbreak to Harrison’s family and friends.

“This should have been a time for celebration,” a Tarrant police official said. “Instead, we are left with the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short by senseless violence. We are committed to finding justice for Kristy Harrison.”
