Fort Mill, SC – August 27, 2025 — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Detention Officer Aaron Tindall, 30, who was killed Wednesday in a head-on crash along Highway 460 in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after noon. Investigators said Tindall was driving a Chrysler van when it left the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and slammed into another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Troopers confirmed that Officer Tindall died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a nearby hospital. Their condition has not been released.

Sheriff’s Office Statement

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office released a statement late Wednesday expressing heartbreak over the loss of one of their own.

“Officer Tindall was a dedicated member of our team whose service to the community will not be forgotten. His professionalism and commitment to duty earned him the respect of his colleagues and the inmates he worked with daily. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

A Life of Service Cut Short

Tindall joined the Sheriff’s Office as a detention officer and quickly gained recognition as someone who brought compassion, patience, and strong leadership into a challenging role. Colleagues remembered him as a steady presence, always willing to support his team.

Friends outside of law enforcement described him as a caring and driven young man who loved helping others. At just 30 years old, his life was tragically cut short, leaving behind family, friends, and a law enforcement community in grief.

Investigation Ongoing

The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is continuing to examine the wreck, including whether speed, roadway conditions, or other factors played a role.

Highway 460, where the crash occurred, has seen multiple accidents in recent years, raising concerns among local residents about safety conditions along the stretch of road.
