Shrewsbury Father Kevin Doherty Fatally Shot After Confrontation With Graffiti Suspect

 

Shrewsbury, MA — A quiet Thursday morning turned tragic when Kevin Doherty, 56, a beloved Shrewsbury father, was fatally shot after confronting a man allegedly vandalizing property near Jordan Pond.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Snehal Srivastava, 26, who was arrested shortly after the shooting. Police say Srivastava surrendered in the middle of a nearby street following a tense standoff.

The Fatal Confrontation

According to investigators, Doherty noticed someone spray-painting near Jordan Pond, an area he often helped care for. Acting on his sense of responsibility for his community, he confronted the suspect. The confrontation escalated, and police say Srivastava pulled a gun and shot Doherty.

Despite first responders’ efforts, Doherty was pronounced dead at the scene. In his final moments, he managed to dial 911, telling dispatchers: “He shot me.”

Swift Arrest

Law enforcement quickly launched a manhunt. Within hours, Srivastava was spotted walking along a roadway, where he surrendered without resistance.

On Friday, he was arraigned in Westborough District Court on multiple charges, including armed assault with intent to murder and firearm offenses. He is being held without bail until a dangerousness hearing scheduled for next week.
