The devastating incident has shaken classmates, teachers, families, and the wider Phoenix community, leaving them grieving the life of a young man taken far too soon.
According to investigators, Michael was attacked by another classmate shortly before 11 a.m. inside a classroom on the Maryvale campus near 59th Avenue and Indian School Road. Police confirmed that the suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, used a folding pocketknife that he had brought to school.

Witnesses said the attack unfolded quickly. After the stabbing, the suspect ran from the classroom, dropping the knife before being detained by a school safety officer. Both Michael and the suspect were transported to the hospitalโMichael with life-threatening injuries and the suspect with a hand wound. The suspect has since been released from the hospital and is now in the custody of the Juvenile Court Center.
