MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities have confirmed the identity of the suspect in Wednesday’s violent attack at Annunciation Catholic Church, which left the local community shaken and searching for answers. Police identified the gunman as 22-year-old Robin Westman of Minneapolis, a resident who lived less than three miles from the church.

Law enforcement officials say Westman carried out the attack inside the parish, disrupting what should have been a place of peace and worship. Details on the events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, but authorities confirmed that Westman was armed and entered the church during an active service.

Emergency responders and police rushed to the scene as terrified parishioners sought safety. Witnesses described chaos and fear as the sound of gunfire echoed through the sanctuary. Several individuals were injured, though the extent of those injuries has not yet been fully released by authorities.

Investigators are still piecing together Westman’s motives, with police searching his home and speaking to acquaintances to determine whether the attack was planned or spontaneous. At this time, officials have not shared any clear evidence linking Westman to the parish or its members, leaving many to wonder why Annunciation Catholic Church was targeted.

“We are working tirelessly to understand the motive behind this senseless act,” Minneapolis Police said in a statement. “Our priority is the safety of our community, the healing of victims, and supporting parishioners who endured this traumatic event.”

The attack has left deep scars within the Minneapolis Catholic community. Clergy members, parishioners, and local leaders have called for unity and prayer in the aftermath, emphasizing resilience in the face of tragedy. Counseling services and support networks have also been made available for those directly impacted by the violence.

Authorities confirmed that Westman will face multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons violations. The case remains an ongoing investigation, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

As Minneapolis recovers from the shock, faith leaders have stressed that Annunciation Catholic Church will continue to serve as a beacon of hope, even as the community grieves and demands justice for the attack.
