Milwaukee Shooting: Man in His 50s Critically Injured After Gunfire on 26th and Atkinson

 

MILWAUKEE — A man in his 50s is fighting for his life after being shot in the neck late Saturday night near 26th Street and Atkinson Avenue, according to Milwaukee authorities.

Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly before midnight following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered the victim lying on the ground, unresponsive and bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Paramedics immediately began life-saving measures at the scene. The victim, described only as an adult male in his 50s, was transported to a local hospital while blood transfusions were administered en route. Officials said he was unconscious during transport and remains in critical condition.

Police Working to Identify Suspect

As of early Sunday, police had not released details regarding a suspect, motive, or circumstances leading up to the shooting. Detectives cordoned off the area overnight, searching for shell casings and speaking with potential witnesses.

“We are still in the very early stages of the investigation,” a Milwaukee Police spokesperson said. “We are asking the community to assist us with any information that may help us understand what happened here tonight.”

Residents on Edge

Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots ring out before squad cars swarmed the intersection. Some described the scene as chaotic, with flashing lights, officers canvassing the area, and paramedics working frantically to save the victim.

One resident, who declined to give his name, told reporters, “It’s heartbreaking. We hear gunfire way too often around here. This is our neighborhood, and we just want it to be safe.”

The incident adds to a string of violent episodes that have shaken Milwaukee neighborhoods this summer, fueling ongoing concerns about public safety.
