Crossville Man Dies After Downtown Shooting; Suspect Now Charged With Murder

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — A confrontation in the heart of downtown Crossville has turned deadly, and prosecutors have now upgraded charges against the suspect to second-degree murder.

Authorities confirmed that Albert Darrell Sturgill Jr. died Saturday afternoon at the hospital, one day after being shot during a dispute on North Main Street near Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse.

The suspect, 42-year-old Eric Brandon Garrison of Crossville, was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder but is now facing a murder charge, District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway announced. Garrison remains held at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Shooting Caught on Camera

The deadly encounter happened around 5:45 p.m. Friday during a busy time of day, with dozens of witnesses nearby.

Investigators said the dispute began in the roadway and escalated rapidly. Several bystanders captured the shooting on cellphone video. Prosecutors confirmed those recordings are now part of the official evidence file.
