73-Year-Old Man Struck While Waiting at Florissant Bus Stop Has Died; Ford Explorer Driver Remains at Scene

FLORISSANT, Mo. — A 73-year-old man who was struck by a speeding SUV while waiting at a bus stop in Florissant has died from his injuries, police confirmed Thursday.

Morning Crash on Lindbergh Boulevard

The fatal collision occurred around 9 a.m. in the southbound lanes of North Lindbergh Boulevard near Cougar Drive, according to the Florissant Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

Witnesses reported that the elderly man had been sitting at a bus stop, waiting for the bus, when a Ford Explorer came across Lindbergh from the Schnucks Plaza at a high rate of speed. The SUV jumped the curb, striking the victim before continuing into the AT&T parking lot, where it came to a stop.

Victim Airlifted, Later Dies

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and the man was airlifted by Survival Flight to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, authorities say he later died from his injuries.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of family members.

Driver Stayed on Scene

The driver of the Ford Explorer, described by police as a 24-year-old adult, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges have been announced at this time. Authorities have not indicated whether impairment, distraction, or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.

Community Shock

The area around Lindbergh and Cougar Drive is a busy commercial corridor, with grocery stores, shops, and restaurants nearby. Many locals expressed sadness and frustration over the incident, which occurred in broad daylight at a public transit stop.

“It’s heartbreaking. He was just waiting for the bus like anybody else, and now he’s gone,” said one resident who shops at the nearby plaza.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florissant Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are conducting a joint investigation. Crash reconstruction specialists remained on scene for several hours Thursday, causing traffic delays in the southbound lanes of Lindbergh.

Authorities say more details, including the victim’s identity and whether charges will be filed against the driver, will be released as the investigation continues.
